Suspected armed herders have brutally killed two farmers in a deadly ambush near the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, intensifying fears among residents in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The victims—Tony Adejo and Jeremiah Danjuma, both natives of Odugbeho Ward—were reportedly attacked while working on their farmland in Omebe village, a community already grappling with rising insecurity.
According to local sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred as the victims went about their daily farming activities, unaware of the impending danger.
In response to a distress call, the Area Commander in Otukpo swiftly deployed patrol units and Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers to the scene. However, by the time security operatives arrived, the attackers had already fled.
The bodies of the deceased were recovered and transported to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, where they have been deposited for autopsy as investigations continue.
The attack has sparked fresh concerns over the persistent conflict between farmers and herders in the state, with calls for more robust security measures to protect rural communities.
